SERMON INTRODUCTION
Today we will be looking at the Lord creating
the New Heaven and New Earth and talking about why this has to be.

THE
THINGS WHICH SHALL BE
TODAY’S SERMON - THE THINGS WHICH SHALL BE
Revelation 21:1-8
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new
earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was
no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And
I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now
among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God
himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from
their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the
old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne
said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these
words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am
the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give
water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are
victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my
children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the
sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all
liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the
second death.”
I.
THE OLD ORDER OF THINGS
a.
The first heaven and earth had
passed away
i. John sees the New Heaven and New
Earth
ii. The old has passed away
1.
This happened in Revelation 20:11 “Then I saw a great
white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from
his presence, and there was no place for them.”
2.
This took place at Judgment when all who ever existed, were called to be
judged, and the books were opened, just after the Judgment of Satan and all
those who followed and served him.
iii. “and there was no longer any sea” meaning no more oceans.
1.
There will still be lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, however only one
large mass of land so everything will be one and there will be no division of
property.
b.
The new Jerusalem
i. The New Jerusalem then came down
from heaven prepared as a beautiful bride.
ii. A loud voice from heaven saying,
“Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with
them.”
iii. Remember the things that were on
earth during the old order “represented” the things that were in heaven.
1.
The ark, judgment seat, the temple, Jerusalem (meaning city of peace)
iv. Now that the earth is cleansed, sin
and evil have been removed, the earth is now pure and holy and can house that
which was in heaven.
c.
The new order
i. God will wipe every tear from our eyes (no more sorrow)
ii. There will be no more death (Revelation 20:14 death and Sheol –
the place of departed spirits, were both cast into the lake of fire because
there would be no more “dying”, and therefore no more use for the place of
departed spirits, so both were cast away forever.)
1.
I believe God (Alpha and Omega, First and Last, Beginning and End)
Created “time” in Genesis 1:1-5 “the first
day”.
2.
Now that the New Earth has been created, and we have received our new
bodies, death was cast away because no one will age from this point on. There
is no longer a need for “time”, I believe this is what is cast into the pit in Revelation
20:14, called death, it was actually “time”.
3.
Isaiah 25:7-8 “On this mountain (Mount
Zion/New Jerusalem) he will destroy
the shroud that enfolds all peoples (FLESH-we get new bodies),
the sheet that covers all nations (SHEOL-place for departed/dead
people’s spirits);
he will swallow up death forever (TIME-no longer needed after
Judgment Day).
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces;
He will remove his people’s disgrace (SIN) from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.”
4.
We see the flesh is replaced with a new perfect body; Sheol is destroyed
because it is no longer needed and time is no longer needed because there will
be no more aging or dying.
iii. There will be no more mourning
iv. No more crying
v. No more pain
vi. The Old Order of things has passed
away
II.
I AM MAKING EVERYTHING NEW
a.
New heaven, new earth & new
Jerusalem
i. A New Heaven – because
the old had tasted sin (Revelation 12:7-10 “war broke out in heaven. Michael and his
angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8
But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great
dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who
leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with
him.”)
ii. A New Earth – because
the old had tasted sin (Genesis 3)
iii. A New Jerusalem because the
old had tasted sin (Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15-16; 2 Thessalonians 2:4)Antichrist
stands in the third temple in Jerusalem and claims to be God during the
Tribulation)
iv. A New US! – Because
our flesh was sinful, so we will receive new bodies! (Philippians 3:21)
b.
The new us!
i. Like Jesus, we too will receive resurrected bodies
1.
Linked to Christ (Philippians 3:21 “Christ
will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body,
according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to
Himself”
2.
Literal Flesh/Body – John 20:27 Thomas could touch Jesus; Luke
24:39 Jesus said; “Behold My
hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does
not have flesh and bones as you see I have…”
3.
Our mortal bodies
re-configured/rebuilt sinless and perfect – Romans
8:11 “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus
from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life
to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you.”
4.
New Abilities – Jesus’ resurrected body was not
constrained by physical objects. He appeared in a locked room! John
20:26
5.
Our current flesh is a SEED, once sowed will be harvested a new,
transformed thing 1 Corinthians 15:37-38
6.
It will be POWERFUL – 1 Corinthians 15:43 “It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.”
7.
We will be more than resurrected
perfect flesh, we will also
have a spiritual body as well – 1 Corinthians 15:44
8.
We will be IMMORTAL and
INCORRUPTIBLE – 1 Corinthians 15:42; 1
Corinthians 15:53
9.
We will be glorious in form – 1 Corinthians 15:43
10.
Perfect and Righteous – Philippians 1:6
11.
Unique from one another – 1 Corinthians 15:41-42 “There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and
another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. So also is the
resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an
imperishable body”
12.
We will still be “us” – 1 Corinthians 6:14
c.
Because darkness (sin) has no place
with light
i. The new heaven, earth, Jerusalem and US is because in the end, after
judgment, there will be only pure, perfect, sinless everything.
ii. 2 Corinthians 6:14 “what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship
can light have with darkness?”
iii. NOTHING…and it will no longer exist in our
realm, for everything sinful, evil or vile will be cast into the eternal lake
of fire where it will be trapped for eternity.
III.
IT IS DONE
a.
I Am the beginning and the end
i. Vs 6 “It is done.” God says this because it is! We are still in TIME,
linear, moving through it from beginning to end, however outside of this
dimension, IT IS DONE, COMPLETE, FINISHED!
1.
This is why true prophets of God are 100% accurate, because they reveal
the reality of what has already taken place.
ii. To the thirsty (those desiring the
Holy Spirit) I will give water without cost (all has been done!) from the
spring of the water of life. (Jesus)
b.
To the victorious
i. Those who surrendered themselves to
the Lord in life (saved)
ii. They will inherit all this. And I will be their God and they will be my
children.
c.
But to the unbelieving
i. Untrusting, cowardly, vile, sexually immoral, those who practice
witchcraft, idolaters, murderers and all liars
1.
John 8:44 “You belong
to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He
was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no
truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and
the father of lies.”
2.
Do all liars go to hell? unrepentant, habitual liars go to hell. Thankfully,
repentant liars — like Peter, the Christ-denying apostle — can repent
sincerely, put away lying, and be forgiven by the Lord.
3.
Unbelief, cowardly, vile, sexually immoral, witches, idolaters,
murderers and liars CAN confess their sin, repent and be forgiven!
4.
Those who do not repent, are not forgiven.
ii. THEY will be consigned to the
fiery lake of burning sulfur
iii. THIS is the second death
CONCLUSION
–
The Fiery
Lake of Sulfur – Gehenna,
the final resting place for the Antichrist, the False Prophet, Satan and all of
those who worshipped the Beast or his image, or served and followed Satan or
the Antichrist in battle against the Lamb of God, and all of those whose name
is not written in the Lambs Book of Life.
Is it a party in hell with your friends? Do you
just ‘stop existing” because it’s called the second death?
Revelation 20:10 “…the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake
of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They
will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
Isaiah 66:24 “they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled
against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will
not be quenched”
Is your name in the Lambs Book of Life? It must
be written in! Only Christ can do this,
