House of Faith - Part 6 - Being Doers of the Word

WELCOME

SCRIPTURE READING

James 1:22

“22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

PRAYER

Only 1 obstacle stands between a complacent mediocre church, and a thriving spirit filled house of God.

1 obstacle…1 Word

“DOING”

Most of us have discovered the gifts God has given us.

If you haven’t there are some discovery tests we can get to you so you can take them home and fill them out.

We may be excited about what we found out about our gifts, or even confused.

You may be surprised.

Now comes the time where we begin to use them, becoming doers.

Do you remember the illustration about my lawn mower I gave a while back?

I can have a lawn mower, but unless I use it, my grass will never get cut.

We must be doers if we expect this church to serve and please God.

You are not just here to keep the chairs warm.

You are not just here to tithe.

You are not just here to visit and have fellowship.

God has a purpose for you personally in this church!

If you are here today, it’s because God has a purpose for you in your life, and He wants you to live it!

Today we are going to discuss 3 principles to help you develop your discoveries.

At first my plan was to give you a list of what gifts work well for which positions within the church.

But as I thought about that, what if God wants us to move in a direction yet unknown to us?

How could I define a position that does not exist yet?

So instead of showing you where your gift belongs, we will discuss how to develop and grow your gift, and God will lead you in the right direction.

“Seek God in everything and he will guide your path.”

So we will continuously seek God for direction while we are growing.

  1. Take Advantage of Opportunities

We could all be more effective teachers, singers, leaders, visitors, councilors, maintenance workers, and witnesses if we would take advantage of learning and training opportunities.

Just because God has given you a gift, doesn’t mean that you will immediately use it to its full potential.

Although the Spiritual Gift is God’s ability not ours, we need to use it so it will grow.

Remember the story of the talents?

When the master saw he could trust the servant with a little, he gave the servant a lot!

When we faithfully exercise our gift, God will grow that gift.

When we show God He can trust us to use what He gives us, He will give us more!

It’s about obedience, and it’s about DOING.

This is the one thing that stands between a mediocre church and a pleasing and thriving church of God.

You could have 3000 members, but if they are not spreading the gospel of Christ, what are they really accomplishing?

Or you could have 12 apostles, and change the world by spreading the good news of Jesus Christ!

Which church do we want to be?

This is a very real and important question.

Look around you and ask, “Is this the beginning of God’s will for the House of Faith Ministries?

Is this just the beginning of what God has planned for us and the city of Tawas?”

If there are training classes for your gift, take them!

You may have a gift of counseling. There are Christian counseling courses that can help you be more effective.

If there are books available to help you understand your gift, read them!

Especially the Bible!

If there are conferences to help you with your gift, go to them!

Promise Keepers.

If there are schools to educate you in your gift, then by all means go to them!

God has given me the spiritual gift of pastor, preacher/teacher of God’s word.

I have had this gift for many years now, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have to go to seminary.

Just because God gives you a gift or ability, doesn’t mean you don’t have a responsibility.

I went to Day Spring Ministries for 4 years before graduating, then taking correspondence courses to obtain a second ordination, a certificate in pastoral counseling and a church charter for the House of Faith Ministries that Terri and I started in January 2003.

In 2003 Terri and I started this ministry which mainly focused on helping missionaries, and children in third world countries.

We helped finance the building of an Abandoned Baby Center in Honduras, the building of wells in Africa, and the development of an agricultural city in Kenya, as well as the financial support to a young blind girl in Kenya and a boy in Ethiopia who still writes me letters.

Here is a letter he sent me a couple months ago.

I was DOING. In accordance to the gifts God has given me.

If we expect to experience God’s greatness in our lives, and make a difference in others lives, we must be DOERS of His word.

For the first few years I listened to Christian seminars on audio tapes in my car everywhere I went.

I was constantly and consistently filling myself with God’s word and education of God’s word.

  1. Exercise your Gift

Your spiritual gift is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.

If you have the spiritual gift of hospitality, and you decide to use it, the first time you have people over you may have made coffee for them.

But you keep using your gift and you keep exercising it, and the next thing you know when people come over you have the table set, with their choice of coffee, hot tea, cold tea, flavored creamers, cookies, snacks, mood music, etc..

You became more efficient at using your gift.

Perhaps you really didn’t know what to talk about when you first invited people over, but after a while, they don’t want to leave because there is always wonderful conversation.

Exercise your gift!

  1. recognize value

“Spiritual gifts are only for the super-spiritual”

WRONG!

Too many people believe this, and when they take this attitude they resign themselves to being a second-rate Christian, unaware that God gives every believer gifts capable for maximum service!

Recognizing your value is especially helpful when your motivation is low.

If you feel depressed or discouraged, you’ll have little desire to develop your gifts.

But if you realize the advantages of developed gifts, your motivation may increase.

You are serving God when you use your gift!

You are fulfilling God’s will for your life and calling when you use your gift.

You are building up the body of believers, the body of Christ, when you use your gift!

Develop and use your gift and you will discover the answers to some of life’s hardest questions.

Who am I?

Why am I here?

Where am I going?

Proverbs 18:16 - Amplified

“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.”

David’s gift of music opened the door to Saul’s palace.

Philip’s gift of evangelism and miracles opened the door to Samaria.

Paul’s gift of Apostleship and teaching brought him to the western world with the gospel.

Elijah’s gift of faith closed the heavens for 3 years, and brought him before King Ahab and the people of Israel.

Bezalel’s gift of craftsmanship built the tabernacle of God in the wilderness.

Nathan’s gift of prophecy brought him before David the King.

Solomon’s gift of wisdom brought great men and women of the world to his court.

Peter’s gift of exhortation caused 3,000 Jews to repent in a single day.

My gift God has given me caused me to write a sermon, and that sermon was found by a minister in India who preached it to 5,000 people, and nearly 2,000 accepted the Lord!

A man’s gift makes room for him.

Be DOERS.

Pray and God will guide you.

Use your gift and God will work through you.

Live the Word, and change peoples lives, including your own.

House of Faith - Part 5 - The Acting Pillar

† SCRIPTURE READING

James 1:22-25

“22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.”

PRAYER

† Our protection and benefits in this world are from God.

He is our shield, and our protector, our mighty fortress.

He has given believers the ability to use His spiritual armor to protect ourselves and our families.

† But to be able to use this protection, we must have the foundation of Christ and His teachings. Our lives MUST be founded on the rock, Jesus Christ.

To hold up our protection so it works to the fullest, we must have pillars upon this foundation in our lives.

† The first pillar we must have is our thinking pillar.

Our thoughts and thinking must be filtered so we can avoid the corruption and pollution of worldly thinking.

Thinking on what is holy and pure, meditating on God’s word.

† As we study and fill our minds with God’s word, He writes His word upon our hearts and it begins to fill our hearts like a file cabinet, filled with goodness at our immediate grasp. This next pillar, our believing pillar, is our heart. This pillar is a direct RESULT of the first pillars operation.

As we continue to read God’s word He fills us with it and with His Holy Spirit which in turn over flows from us.

This overflow becomes evident first in our speech.

This overflow is the Holy Spirit flowing like a river of life from us and into this world through us.

† And as a RESULT we come to the next pillar, our confession or speaking.

Speaking goodness and the word of God, through our confessions, speaking those things as if they were and believing in them, we begin to see miracles in our lives and those we pray for.

† This brings us to the last of our 4 pillars, the Acting Pillar.

Unfortunately, in the world of Christianity, what you see is not always what you get.

We read in James a moment ago, that we must be DOERS of the word and not just hearers.

Otherwise we are deceiving ourselves.

A child can HEAR his parents tell him to do something, but if that child does not DO IT, he is disobeying his parents.

Living in disobedience ties God’s hands in our lives.

The child must not only HEAR what the parents are saying, but DO what they are telling him.

How many of us would last more than a day at work if we heard instruction from our boss, but didn’t follow them?

Could you sit back comfortably relaxed and say, “I heard what he said!”

Or with much confidence say, “every week I hear what my boss says!”

Would you feel secure in your job because you can say, “I read the instructions!”

Would it please your boss if you could recite those instructions to others while you sat there, not doing them yourself?

Or better yet, “I hear what the instruction book says once a week.” Yet, you do not move to put those instructions into actions.

This is Christian mentality today.

“I know what God wants”, but you don’t do it.

“I read my Bible everyday”, but you don’t live it.

“I tell people all the time what they are doing wrong according to God’s Holy Word”, what about what you’re doing wrong according to God’s Holy Word?

Telling others, but not doing yourself. You just defined a hypocrite.

God’s Word was designed by God to change YOUR life, not become a weapon for you to hurl at everyone you have a disagreement with.

The Word of God is not a cache of ammunition to pull out every time you want to prove YOUR point.

The Word is the truth, and when you read you must read “Seeking the truth”, and Jesus promises you will find.

That is, if you are seeking the truth.

These instructions in the Bible were written for YOU, not everyone else.

Stop looking at everyone else’s splinters and start dealing with the plank in your own eye! Or entire barn as the case may be.

You can tell everyone how many times you’ve read the Bible, you could memorize it if you want from cover to cover!

You don’t impress God.

You may be able to impress men with your feats of hay and straw, but in the end, all of that will be burned away before the judgment seat of Christ.

Even the devil has the word of God memorized, do you still think just knowing God’s word does you any good?

What does Jesus say about it?

† Matthew 7:24-27

“24Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Did you hear what it said in verse 24?

Hear Jesus’ Words and put them into practice.

Practice…Practice does not make perfect.

Don’t’ believe me; ask any Doctor who has a practice.

I remember when I was first in college, and I was about 20, and I got sick and had to go to the doctor.

As I was walking up to the door I saw that it said Dr. so and so “Practice”.

I thought, “Man, I don’t want the guy that’s still practicing, I want the guy that does it right!”

You know why they call it a practice?

Because after all the years in college, and medical school, and all the hands on training, and work in the hospitals, all the Doctors have discovered one thing, not how much they know, but how little we know about the human body and it’s workings.

Sure, we have learned a lot over the centuries, but the doctors and all their practice will never make them perfect.

It is the same with God’s Word.

No matter how much we study it, there is always more to learn.

And no on is an expert at it.

Because the key to knowing the Word of God is also Doing it, and none of us are capable of doing it perfect!

Therefore, Christianity is a learning experience that never ends.

We are told in the scriptures that “Christ will continue a good work in us until the day He returns.”

We should continually be growing because of the Word of God.

We should be practicing what it says to do daily, and as we practice, we get better at it.

Though we will never be perfect, we do still grow.

And as we grow, we are to help those around us grow, not attack them and destroy them for not being perfect, but reach out to them, and build them up so that they to can move forward in their relationship with Christ.

God did not give us His Holy Word as a weapon against each other, remember Ephesians 6:12-18, we battle not against flesh and blood, the real battle is spiritual, but He gave us the Word to be used as a tool to edify and build each other up!

We must not only hear God’s word, but we must do God’s word.

There are a lot of fake Christians today.

Plastic.

They look or sound like the real thing, but when put to the test they are but tares among the wheat. Goats among the lambs.

I think we have all had the experience of knowing the guy who walks into the family reunion or other gathering, with his bible in the air in his right hand, a 1 ½ pound cross around his neck hanging to his belt buckle for all to see, quoting scripture of every kind, and yet, you know him.

You know about the time last year when he lied on his taxes to save money.

You were there when he told the insurance company there were more items destroyed in the garage fire than were actually in there.

You know about the time he swindled and elderly couple out of money with a dishonest proposition.

You know about the language he uses when he’s mad at someone.

We all have these types of people in our families, or distant relatives.

What is wrong with the picture?

They scream “I’m a Christian” when they come into a room because they want you to see them for what they say, not what they are doing.

It’s like the wizard of oz, there’s the big infamous OZ in his might and glory for all to behold, while all the time, it’s really a small insignificant man hiding behind a curtain orchestrating a lie to hide his true identity.

These people have heard God’s word, but they don’t do it.

They know what they are supposed to do, but they do what they WANT to do.

They put themselves BEFORE the word of God.

They exalt themselves and what they want above God’s word.

They know what is right and good, but they don’t choose it.

The scriptures tell us to cast down ALL imaginations, or thoughts, that exalt themselves against the Lord.

Anything that exalts itself against the word of God is SIN and will lead to destruction.

Anyone who puts even themselves or what they want above God’s word is doing the same thing the devil did that got him kicked out of heaven!

He wanted HIS word to be law.

He wanted what he wanted instead of what God wanted.

These fake Christians are nothing new.

They have been around since the 1st Century.

In fact, they are often referred to as carnal because they know the truth and word of God, but don’t do it. Their flesh rules them.

A lot of Pagans who adopted Christianity didn’t actually convert during the 1st century; instead they added the one true God to their long list of other God’s they worshipped.

But this isn’t how God works.

“You shall have NO other God’s before me!” That’s the first command.

Do you think you can impress God just because you can deceive man?

On the Day of Judgment when you stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ, you will stand naked before the creator.

And you will be like a child, and without excuse, give an account for every idle word in which you spoke.

Do you truly believe you can stand before the Father in heaven and cry out any defense for your actions and behavior while you were here?

The scriptures say, “None will be with excuse on that day!”

The Day of Judgment is not a trial…it is a sentence.

The trial is NOW, and here!

And Jesus Christ is our mediator, and the Holy Spirit is our power and gives us the fruits, and gifts and armor of God and authority on earth!

But if we do not call on the name of the Lord, we will not be saved.

And all of our loud words and flamboyant behavior will not cover up the deception in our hearts.

Remember our scripture reading today;

James 1:22

“22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves”

Are you deceiving yourselves today because you know the Word, but do not do it?

Plastic Christians cannot fool God.

The scriptures say that “Even all of Sheol is bare before Him.”

Even the place of the departed spirits is bare before the eyes of God.

Could the Sadducees and Pharisees impress God?

They tried.

Jesus called them the synagogue of Satan, a brood of vipers, an evil generation.

These were the so called “Men of God” in that day!

Just as today we have so called “Men of God.”

Men, who claim the Word and Name of our precious Lord and Savior yet have sinful relationships, do illegal drugs, embezzle millions of God’s tithes and offerings.

They have only deceived themselves, for they know the Word, but do not do it.

Do you know what you’re doing when you try to impress God?

When you try to impress someone, whether it is God or another person, you think you are something, and you want them to think you are something as well.

That’s PRIDE.

We are nothing without God, and until we recognize that within ourselves and humble ourselves to the Lord, He has no use for us.

God seeks the humble, not the prideful.

God works through our humility, not our pride.

We must be DOERS of the word, not just hearers.

† 2 Chronicles 7:13 – 15

“13 "When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”

We must be humble, prayerful, seeking God, and repent.

Men, God has placed us, you, as the spiritual head of the house.

We need to start realizing the severity and weight of our responsibilities.

Sin came into this world by one man, Adam.

If you’re saying, “Wait! Eve was beguiled by the devil, she ate the apple first, she took it to Adam and she got him to eat it too! What about Eve!”

Romans 5:12

“12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned–“

Sin entered through ONE MAN.

Why is the fall on Adam and not Eve?

Because, God placed Adam as the spiritual head not Eve.

† Genesis 2:15 – 18

“15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

God gave His Word, His instruction; His command to Adam BEFORE EVE WAS CREATED!!!!

It was Adams Spiritual responsibility that his household did not sin against God.

God commanded or gave the word to Adam. He was placed as the spiritual head. The command was not given to Eve.

This is why the devil used that to trick Eve;

Genesis 3:1

“Did God really say you could not eat of this tree?”

Adam failed as a spiritual head because he did not lead Eve in the word of God.

He wasn’t a DOER of God’s word himself, obviously he proved that when he ate of the fruit.

So why would his family be doers?

We as men are to lead our families through EXAMPLE by being DOERS of the word of God.

Do you realize what it does to your wives and children when you play Christian on Sunday, but you’re a carnal man the other 6 days of the week?

How does your family see you?

As the man you are for one hour every Sunday morning or the man you are for the other 167 hours that week?

Which do you think leaves the bigger impression on them?

Or rather, which man are you?

Which man are you?

You act like the world for 167 hours but like Christ for 1.

And when you act one way in front of the church, and another at home, what values are you teaching your family?

We are told in the word you can’t serve two masters.

This carnal Christian behavior has to end.

You can’t go on in your life PLAYING church for one hour each week.

Well, you can.

But you are not impressing God with your act, and though you may fool man, and the people around you, you are not fooling God, or the people who know you.

As the scripture says, you are only deceiving yourself.

† Revelation 3:15 – 17

“15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.”

† We are to be “useful” to God.

Lukewarm means, you know the Lord and His ways, but you are not DOERS of His word.

Let us pray that we become doers of God’s Word, and put those Words into practice.

Let us pray that God finds us “useful”, and continues His good work in us!

House of Faith - Part 4 - The Confessing Pillar

WELCOME

† SCRIPTURE READING

Proverbs 18:21

21 The tongue has the power of life and death,

and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

PRAYER

† We’ve talked about spiritual warfare. We understand that God hasn’t left us without means here on earth. We know that He has given His Holy armor to protect us and our families.

We are being bombarded daily with attacks from the devil.

Backbiting, gossip, lies, sickness, etc..

In fact, there were more backbiting, gossip and lies being told about me since I started preaching than all my years as a Christian before put together.

There are still rumors gossip and lies being spread about me right now.

But we have the shield of Faith that protects us from these attacks and extinguishes the devils flaming arrows.

Through God’s armor, we are capable of withstanding the attacks from the devil.

This is like a roof to our house of faith.

Try as they may, they can lie all they want, gossip all they want, they can say whatever they want, but because I walk in truth and the Holy Spirit, I have protection.

But to qualify for this protection, we must be saved. And our house of faith must be established by God.

† The foundation to our house of faith must have Christ as the cornerstone and the teachings of the prophets and apostles (which is the Bible) as the foundation.

Upon receiving Christ and making Him the foundation in our lives, God will grow us through the study of His word.

Our thinking begins to change as we read and study His Holy word.

† As God grows us, we start to filter the things we allow in our minds; we filter the trash from our thinking.

We filter the garbage of this world from our sight, ears and thought process.

This is like a pillar set on the firm foundation to hold up our roof on our house of faith.

As we continue to study and build our personal relationship with Christ, (like the prayer David prayed) God writes His word upon our hearts.

† His word begins to fill our hearts like a filing cabinet.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of the Lord.

And as we continue to fill our hearts with Him, our filing cabinet, or hearts, begin to overflow, and like we read a few weeks ago, a spring of living water will flow out from us.

The Holy Spirit will fill us to a point that He will begin to flow out of us and into this world through us.

A spring of living water, flowing from us into this world.

This is how God works in our world today.

Through us!

We are the Kingdom of God!

If you hear people say they just don’t see evidence of God in the world today, it’s because we’re not doing something right.

Rivers of living waters should be flowing from us everyday!

God works through us, His people, to reach the lost of this world.

And this river is the Holy Spirit.

Because nothing is possible without the Holy Spirit, and it is through the Holy Spirit in us that we do these good works.

This becomes our second pillar holding up our shield of faith which protects us.

† The Confession pillar is a result of what is overflowing from our hearts.

What we speak is from this overflow.

† Matthew 12:33-37

33“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every idle word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted (forgiven) and by your words you will be condemned.”

An apple is from an apple tree, and an orange is from an orange tree. If I hold up one or the other, you know without seeing the tree itself, which tree the fruit came from. You can tell the tree by the fruit it gives.

Do you have a river of life, living water, Holy Spirit flowing out of you and your mouth?

What fruit are you producing in your life?

Is it Holy Fruit?

Or, do you have sewage overflowing?

Remember, the tongue has the power of life and death.

The Lord spoke everything into existence.

And the Lord cursed the fig tree with His mouth for not producing fruit when it was supposed to.

We have the power of God within us in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Are we speaking words of life or death?

The power of life and death are in our tongue.

Are you edifying, encouraging, lifting up and growing?

Or are you spewing out filth, cutting down, killing others with your words and foul language.

Are you foul and filthy in one sentence, and then praising God in the next?

That’s what the bible refers to as double minded.

You need to choose the master you are going to serve.

What fruit are you producing with your mouth?

Because this fruit is evidence of what kind of tree you are.

The tongue has the power of life and death!

What is life?

† Matthew 10:32-33(Jesus Speaking)

“Whoever confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my Father in heaven. (LIFE ETERNAL) 33But whoever denies me before men, I will deny him before my Father in heaven. (DEATH ETERNAL)

Remember what we read a minute ago in verse 36?

36”But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every idle word they have spoken.”

What do you speak in idle?

What is coming out of your mouth?

Remember, Jesus said that it’s what‘s coming out of your mouth that defiles you.

† Psalm 39:1-3 (David Speaking)

1 I said, "I will watch my ways

and keep my tongue from sin;

I will put a muzzle on my mouth

as long as the wicked are in my presence."

2 But when I was silent and still,

not even saying anything good,

my anguish increased.

3 My heart grew hot within me,

and as I meditated, the fire burned;

then I spoke with my tongue:

David was saying, “if I can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”

But he couldn’t continue to keep silent!

When he couldn’t take anymore, he spoke, but GOOD and to God!

That’s what David just told us.

Gossip, backbiting, false witness and lies are snares of the devil.

So what if I slip up…

† James 1:26-27

26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

To do good, and keep yourself from being polluted by the world.

How do you know if you’re polluted by the world?

Easy, has your thinking changed since you’ve accepted Christ?

Have your thoughts, or way of thinking changed?

Do you filter what comes into your mind, your house?

Are you filling your heart with God’s word or do you spend all your free time on worldly things?

Is God really number one in your life?

What is the most important thing in your life?

Your job, your retirement, your husband or wife, your children?

If any of those were your answer, you may be headed for disaster.

God HAS to come first!

“You mean even before my husband, wife or kids?”

I mean even before YOURSELF!

What good is a man whose priority is himself?

The most evident proof to see if you are polluted by this world is by your fruit.

† Proverbs 10:11

“ 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,

but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.”

If you are speaking violent, hateful, hurtful, angry, vile, things, then you have the mouth of a wicked person.

You heart is full of the things you speak.

Your fruit shows this.

Why does Jesus tell us this?

So we can recognize where we are, and make it right!

So we can see the evidence of our hearts, and know whether or not we have allowed Christ into our hearts.

So we can see what is filling us.

So we can change it!

God’s word was designed to fill our hearts and from that overflow, be in our mouths.

† Deuteronomy 30:11-18 (The Offer of Life and Death)

11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, "Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, "Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?" 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.”

God has set before us Life and Death. And the power is in our tongue!

Judging by the fruits of your mouth, where is your heart today?

Are you choosing life or death?

You can choose life today!

† Romans 10:8-10 tells us that “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has risen Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED.”

“For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation!”

Confess to the Lord today and choose life

Examine your tongue to see what tree you are from.

Psalm 32:5 says “I confessed my sin to you and you forgave me”

1 John 1:8-10

“8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.”

† Today you can choose life.

Today you can confess the Lord before man, and Christ will confess you before God in heaven.

Today you can examine your mouth, and know what is truly in your heart.

Today you can confess to the Lord and He can change your life.

And before you know it, you have made God first in your life, and through your study of God’s word, it will fill your heart and overflow through your mouth and you will confess and speak the goodness of the Lord.

PRAYER

Father, thank you for your word.

Thank you for showing us the power our words have.

You spoke everything that is, into existence.

You have given us the power of life and death in our tongue.

I pray that anyone here today that wants to confess to you Lord, they come forward.

I pray that they recognize that their hearts need to be changed by you Lord.

I pray that they confess you Lord before all, and confess to you so they may be forgiven.

Amen.
