SERMON INTRODUCTION
Last week we looked at the New Heaven and the
New Earth as well as our New Resurrected Bodies. This week we will look at the
new Jerusalem.
Up to this point the Great Tribulation has
ended with the defeat of Satan’s attempt to create himself as a god (666) and
we saw the destruction of Satan’s Antichrist and False Prophet (unholy spirit)
as they were cast alive into the lake of burning sulfur where they would be
tormented and trapped for eternity, along with Satan’s earthly armies of demon
possessed humans.
Satan was them chained and cast into the Abyss
to be held while the Kingdom Age took place. For 1,000 years Jesus and His
followers rule the Earth. After which Satan is released and he immediately
deceives and builds another army to fight the Lamb.
Again, Satan is instantly and immediately
destroyed along with those who followed him.
This is the third and last time Satan deceived
multitudes to turn against the Lamb.
The
first time was in heaven with 1/3 and the angels
The
second was on earth during Tribulation
This
being the third and last time after the 1,000 year reign of the Kingdom Age
At this point is the great White Throne
Judgment.
All are called before the throne, heaven and
earth “pass away” Matthew 24:35
All whose name is not in the Lambs Book of Life
are cast into the Lake of Burning Sulfur with the Antichrist, false prophet,
Satan, Death (dying/time) and Sheol (place of departed spirits is no longer
needed because from this point there is no “time”, no one ages, or dies, so
there is no reason for a place for spirits that leave the body.
After this we see we have received New Bodies
(sinless), and there was created a New Earth and a New Heaven.
And now, a New Jerusalem coming down from God
to be on the New Earth
What we will see here in the description of the
New Jerusalem is everything in a multiple of the number 12.
12 is found 187 times in the Bible. Revelation
alone has 22 occurrences of it.
12 is considered a perfect number.
It symbolizes God’s power and authority as well
as a perfect godly governmental foundation.
-
Jacob
(Israel) had 12 sons, each represents a tribe begun by a prince, 12 princes
total.
-
Christ
called 12 men to bear witness to Him
-
12,000
from each tribe receive salvation during Tribulation (144,000)
-
Christ’s
Bride in Revelation 12 (the church) wears a crown containing 12 stars
-
The
New Jerusalem has 12 gates, 12 names of the tribes, 12 foundations with 12
names of Apostles, walls are 144 cubits thick (12 x 12) and the city itself is
a perfect square 12,000 furlongs (12,000 x 12,000 x 12,000)
-
There
are also 12 patriarchs in the Bible
-
Jesus’
first recorded words in the bible was when He was 12 years old
-
The
high priest’s breastplate has 12 stones
Make
no mistake, 12 is an important number to God

READING
Revelation 21:9-27
9 One of the seven angels who had
the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I
will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in
the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City,
Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of
God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper,
clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with
twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve
tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north,
three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve
foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angel who talked with me had
a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The
city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city
with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high
as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it
was 144 cubits thick. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure
gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated
with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second
sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth
ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth
turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates
were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the
city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.
22 I did not see a temple in the
city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city
does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it
light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the
kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its
gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of
the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor
will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names
are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
