INTRODUCTION

Today is Sunday. June 11th, 2023

Last week we talked about how we are all the Church, all believers are part of the Body of Christ, and we are all called to serve in different manners. Though we may all serve the Lord differently, the way we serve accomplishes the same goal, to fulfill the will of God.

What is the will of God?

Jesus told the disciples in Matthew 28 with the great commission, preach the Good News to all so they may be forgiven of sin, receive Salvation and learn to become a disciple of Christ.

“This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:3-4

So, though we all serve in differing manners, the goal of our service is to fulfill the will of God, and that is, to take the Gospel to all nations, baptize, and then teach them to obey all that Jesus commands.

Whether you are a car salesman, real estate agent, doctor, grocery cart retriever, unemployed, soldier, musician, if you belong to the Body of Christ, you are called to share the gospel of Salvation.

We also spoke last week about the difference between a Luke 5 disciple and a Matthew 28 disciple. We see in scripture, as you grow in experience and knowledge, what is expected of you grows as well.

In Luke 5, the new disciple Simon simply had to take the boat into the deep waters and throw a net in where he had already fished the night before with no luck, this time pulling in a massive catch.

In Matthew 28, the seasoned veteran disciples were commanded by Christ to go “make disciples” in all nations. Making a disciple is far more intense that casting a net into the waters. There is work involved, and a commitment to serve others, teaching and nurturing as they grow in the Lord and understanding.

Whether new or seasoned, we are called to Witness the Lord to others

SCRIPTURE READING (Legacy Standard Bible)

Romans 3:23

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Who needs the gospel? Everyone. Who is to share the gospel? Everyone who is a follower of Christ Jesus.

The question this series will answer is this, How can I, an everyday Christian, share about Jesus with others?

Last week we spoke of the responsibilities of followers, and this week we will talk about the actual details of sharing, or, what exactly are we to share?

TODAY’S MESSAGE

I.          WE ALL NEED GOD’S FORGIVENESS

a.      We have all sinned against God

                                                 i.      Romans 3:23 “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

ii.      Isaiah 64:6-7 “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, carry us away. There is no one who calls on Your name, Who awakens himself to take hold of You, For You have hidden Your face from us And have melted us into the hand of our iniquities.”

b.     The wages of sin is eternal damnation (the second death)

                                                 i.      Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

ii.      Mark 1:23-25 “And immediately there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, saying, “What do we have to do with You, Jesus the Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him.”

iii.      What is the second death? Spiritual death?

1.      It is NOT dying!

a.      Hebrews 9:27 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,”

b.     We shall all die, whether you are a Christian or not.

 c.      So what did Jesus mean by John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”

                                                                                                                         i.      We will all die and face judgment

ii.      If we belong to the New Covenant, our sin-debt was paid

iii.      Therefore we will go on living and never die a second death

iv.      The second death is the spiritual death

 2.      Revelation 21:8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

iv.      Do you want to be saved from the second death?

1.      James 5:19-20 “My brothers, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS.”

 a.      Brothers – believers

b.     Strays from the truth – turned from salvation

c.      Turns him back – leads him to repentance

d.     Turns the sinner (the brother/believer)

e.      From the error of his way – turning from salvation

f.       Save his soul from death

                                                                                                                          i.      NOT dying! We ALL DIE and face judgment

ii.      This is speaking of the second death!

 c.      No one is righteous, no one understands, no one seeks God

                                                 i.      Romans 3:10-12 “as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;”

ii.      Luke 13:3 “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

iii.      Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

II.      FORGIVENESS IS AVAILABLE TO ALL

a.      Jesus paid the price for those who are part of His covenant

                                                 i.      Hebrews 9:27-28 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.”

ii.      John 4:21-26 “Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when He comes, He will declare all things to us.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

iii.      John 6:44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

iv.      So how does God, the Father, draw those to Christ Jesus?

1.      Romans 10:1 “Brothers, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.”

2.      Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who draws near to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

  3.      1 Corinthians 7:14 “For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. For otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.”

4.      Matthew 28, the Great Commission.

                                               v.      Through prayer and sharing the Gospel with others, we sow a seed of God’s Truth, and through the work of the Holy Spirit, there are many who are drawn to Jesus through our labor.

vi.      Romans 10:12-17 “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him, for “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PROCLAIM GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!” However, they did not all heed the good news, for Isaiah says, “LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

It is God’s Will that ALL are saved, but not ALL will heed the Good News.

However, for those who hear, and believe and call on the name of the Lord, they will be saved!

 b.     Jesus is quick to forgive

                                                 i.      John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”

ii.      John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

iii.      1 John 1:9-10 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.”

c.      Confess, believe and be justified and saved

                                                 i.      Romans 10:9-10 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation.”

ii.      John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.”

iii.      Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

III.   WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE IN MY LIFE

a.      Explain how you were sinning against God

                                                 i.      You don’t have to give gory details, but simple facts

1.      I was using drugs, drinking and running around

2.      I was living selfishly

3.      I was on a one way track to ruin

ii.      We all have our story of sin

1.      Whether it’s addiction to drugs, alcohol, pornography

2.      If we have ever lied, stole, committed adultery

3.      We have all sinned

 b.     Explain how you deserved eternal separation from God

                                                 i.      Do you believe you are a good person and deserve heaven for being a lying, thieving adulterer?

ii.      No. We have earned our wages of sin, which is the second death.

iii.      Without someone else paying the debt, Jesus, when we died and faced judgment, we would owe that debt.

iv.      However, because someone shared the Good News with you, just like you are doing now with someone, you heard the truth, believed it, and were drawn to Christ Jesus.

                                                v.      You called on the only name that can save and received pardon for your debt.

c.      Explain how God led you to Him

                                                 i.      I was a drug-filled, porn-addicted adulterer who received a seed of truth, sown in me years earlier.

ii.      I believed it, was drawn to Christ for salvation from my sin-filled life, called on the name of the Lord and was saved.

What happened next was the Beginning of my New Life.

CONCLUSION

Philippians 1:6 “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

The Holy Spirit enters you when you submit to Christ, and begins a work within you, making you a new creation. The old has passed away!
