Everyday Life
INTRODUCTION
Today is Sunday. June 4th,
2023
Our last series looked at the local and global church's
differing responsibilities and what we, as followers, have been called to do.
Keeping this in mind, this series will break down the
different ways we can serve the Lord and reach the lost who are in desperate
need of forgiveness and salvation in the name of Jesus Christ through our
everyday life.
1 Corinthians
12:14-18 “the Body is not one
member, but many. 15 If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a
part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the Body.
16 And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,”
it is not for this reason any the less a part of the Body. 17 If the whole Body
were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would
the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has appointed the members, each one of
them, in the Body, just as He desired.”
We are ALL part of the Body of Christ and serve different
roles within the Body.
This is one of the reasons we can't compare ourselves to
each other. Should an ear feel defeated because it cannot see? This is what it
is like when we compare ourselves to others within the Body of Christ.
We are all members, all parts which make up the whole.
Each of us is a different part with a specific purpose, and as Paul explains in
1 Corinthians, though we are all serving the Body in
different ways, we are all equally important to the Body.
1 Corinthians
12:24-26 “God has so composed the
body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, 25 so that there
may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for
one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if
one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.”
God created this Body in
a way where we are all different but equally important, so there could be no
division among us. What one lacks, another takes care of, and another can
provide if one is in need. If one suffers, we all suffer; if one is honored, we
ALL rejoice!
We are
ALL the Body of Christ in Unity
If you are a believer and follower of Jesus
Christ, you are part of the whole!
SCRIPTURE READING (Legacy Standard Bible)
Galatians 3:27
“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ.”
The question this series
will answer is this, How can I, an everyday Christian, share about Jesus with
others?
TODAY’S MESSAGE
I.
REMOVE THE PRESSURE OF SUCCESS AND DOUBT
a.
Fear of failure causes stress
i.
If
you are not a Matthew 28 Disciple, you are not
qualified to “make disciples.”
1.
That
pressure can cause fear of failure
2.
Fear
of failure can keep you from ever trying
3.
Fear
is exactly what the devil wants you to have
4.
Fear
is having more faith in the “what-if” than faith in God
ii.
Isaiah 41:9-10 “You whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, And called
from its remotest parts And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you
and not rejected you. 10 Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look
about you, for I am your God. I will make you mighty, surely I will help you;
Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”
iii.
Psalm 34:4 “I
inquired of Yahweh, and He answered me, And delivered me from all that I
dread.”
iv.
Luke 12:32 “Do
not fear, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the
kingdom.”
b.
Not understanding your actual calling can cause doubt
i.
If
you are unsure what the Lord has called you to do, then you may doubt
everything you try, even if you try the very thing He has called you to do.
ii.
This
is why it is crucial to know the Will of God and your place within the Body of
Christ.
c.
Knowing what it is the Lord expects of you is crucial to peace
i.
What
is the Will of God?
1.
1 Timothy 2:3-6 “This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to
be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator
also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom
for all”
2.
2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some consider slowness, but is
patient toward you, not willing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
3.
Matthew 23:37
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to
her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers
her chicks under her wings, and you did not want it.”
4.
God’s
Will is ALL to repent and receive Salvation!
ii.
Therefore,
whatever God calls you to as an individual part of the Body of Christ, will
serve His purpose in fulfilling His Will!
iii.
Whatever
your calling, it will be to bring others to repentance and salvation.
1.
HOW
this is achieved by God through you personally is what you need to discover.
2.
Whatever
it is, it will serve His purpose and Will.
iv.
You
will have peace in your heart and mind when you KNOW you are doing what the
Lord has called you to do in your life.
1.
Maybe
you are called to write children’s Christian books
2.
Perhaps
you are called to be a light and beacon at your place of work
3.
Maybe
you are called to serve in your community for the Lord
4.
Perhaps
you are called to be a teacher of the Word
5.
Maybe
you are called to share your testimony with anyone willing to listen
v.
Once
you discover your calling and DO IT, you will have peace and be strengthened by
God to achieve what He has called you to do.
II.
KNOWING GOD’S CALLING ON YOU IN YOUR LIFE
a.
Are you a seasoned Matthew 28 Disciple or a Luke 5
Follower?
i.
Remember
the difference. Jesus called the seasoned disciples in Matthew 28 to “make disciples.”
ii.
In Luke 5, Jesus called new believers to serve. Fewer
responsibilities until they were mature. He did not ask them to “make disciples”
but to obey His commands, and they would see results.
b.
If you are a Mathew 28 Disciple, you need to teach other
Disciples
i.
Lead
a study or teen group, men’s group, or something.
ii.
Teach
those willing to grow spiritually.
iii.
Be
part of something that creates, educates, and grows disciples.
iv.
Mentoring,
counseling, there are many things a Mathew 28 disciple can do to be
part of “making disciples.”
c.
If you are a Luke 5 Disciple, you need to share about God
i.
Like
Simon, obey the Lord’s commands
ii.
Be a
doer of His Word and continue to grow spiritually.
iii.
Study,
read, take classes, grow, learn, and pray.
iv.
If
you are called to it, join the seminary, bible college, and online courses.
v.
Put
effort into growing spiritually so you can be a mature disciple.
III.
THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SHARE ABOUT GOD IN EVERYDAY LIFE
a.
Share where you already are
i.
Home
– Family, friends, neighbors, visitors
ii.
Work
– Co-workers, customers
iii.
Visiting
friends and family
b.
Share where you go
i.
Walking
the dog
ii.
Going
to the park
iii.
Going
to dinner
iv.
Hanging
out at the local Café (how I learned about the Lord!)
c.
Create opportunities for sharing about God.
i.
Try
a new hobby
ii.
Join
a club
iii.
Go
to a public event
Every day there are
opportunities for us to share about the Lord. Every day we talk with people who
need Jesus. Every day we run into someone who would accept an invitation to attend
church, join a study, or listen to one of our sermons online.
We are
the Body of Christ, Serving Him by Serving and loving each other.
CONCLUSION
If you are a Matthew 28 Disciple, take someone under your wing and
teach them about God through the Word and study. Then, invite them to church,
and include them in your reading and growth by conversation and sharing with
them about the Lord.
If you are a Luke 5 Disciple, then share your personal experience
about the Lord with them. Then, invite them to church to learn more, or turn
them on to our online sermons, where they can hear more from home.
Whether you are a Luke 5 or Matthew 28 Disciple, you are part of the Body of Christ and must share the Lord
with others.
As we work together to
help those we come in contact with, we will see lives change because of the Lord's
work. There will be fruit to our labor, and whether it is us who sows the seed,
waters it and helps it grow, or brings the fruit to the Lord, we all get to
rejoice, for we are all one Body!
