SERMON
INTRODUCTION
The
Book of Revelation, or the Revelation of Christ, is the most challenging book
in the bible.
Because
of this fact, many avoid it or ignore it altogether. Some fear lack of
understanding; others afraid to misinterpret, which I guess it is better to
avoid than dive in and get it completely wrong.
Many
times, when a new believer comes to me for direction, they want to jump right
into Revelation and find out what’s to come.
This
is equivalent to deciding one day to learn Mandarin and sitting down to author
a novel in Chinese that very same day.
Or,
a kindergartener learning how to count, and then trying to calculate quantum
mechanics calculations.
The
words in Revelation have caused much debate on rapture, judgment, even some who
claim John was writing about the events in his day in code rather than Jesus
Christ revealing to him about the coming events and Judgment.
A
special blessing is promised to those who read Revelation.
Although
it may be a difficult book, we could all use a special blessing, reading this
is good for us all, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will take the
Revelation of Christ in small portions and gain understanding, little by
little.

THE THINGS WHICH SHALL BE – The Coming Judgment
SCRIPTURE READING
Revelation 16:8-21
The
fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch
people with fire. 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the
name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and
glorify him.
10
The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom
was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed
the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to
repent of what they had done.
12
The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water
was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. 13 Then I saw
three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the
dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false
prophet. 14 They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the
kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God
Almighty.
15
“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains
clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”
16
Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called
Armageddon.
17
The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came
a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 Then there came flashes
of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No
earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so
tremendous was the quake. 19 The great city split into three parts, and the
cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her
the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 Every island fled
away and the mountains could not be found. 21 From the sky huge hailstones,
each weighing about a hundred pounds, fell on people. And they cursed God on
account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.
I.
THE FOURTH ANGEL POURS OUT THE FOURTH BOWL
a.
The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun
i. and the sun was allowed to
scorch people with fire.
ii. This appears to be a
“removing” of earth’s protective atmosphere
iii. Without this, the radiation
and heat from the sun would most definitely be intense
b.
They were seared by the intense heat
i. and they cursed the name of
God
ii. Scorched in the intense
radiation and heat of the sun
iii. Instead of calling on the
name of the Lord in times of trouble, they curse the name of God
c.
God, who had control over these plagues
i. but they refused to repent
and glorify him
ii. God, who has complete
control over the plagues, was cursed
iii. And they refused to “repent” and “glorify
Him”
II.
THE FIFTH ANGEL POURS OUT THE FIFTH BOWL
a.
The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of
the beast
i. and its kingdom was plunged
into darkness.
ii. This “throne” of the Beast
(666) is the re-built Babylon
1. The “one-world church”
2. The “one-world Government”
iii. There are signs that lead up
to the “one-world Government” we are about to read about in verse 14
1. Israel becoming a nation
once more Ezekiel 37 (Re-established 1948)
2. Rise of Russia Ezekiel
38-39
(became superpower in 1950)
3. Capital & labor conflict James
5:1-6
a. The Panic of 1785
b. The copper panic of 1789
c. Panic of 1796
d. The 1802 recession
e. Depression of 1807
f. With multiple recessions and
depressions from that point on, until the Great Depression of 1920
g. With approximately 30 more
recessions, and then
h. tech meltdown in 2000, and
the Great Recession from 2007-2009
4. An increase of knowledge and
travel Daniel 12:4 (Our transportation and knowledge are unsurpassed in
any other period of our time!)
5. Apostasy of the church 2 Timothy
4:1-4
a. An abandonment within the
church of belief, turning to false teachings and tickling of ears as apposed to
sound doctrine of Christ.
b. Look at the numerous
denominations, teachings of men as doctrine, cults, false teachings, prosperity
preaching, TV-crook so-called evangelists.
c. Apostasy is NOW
6. Occultism abounds 2 Timothy
4:3-4
7. Those who scoff at the Word
of God and Christ’s Salvation 2 Timothy 3:1-5
8. Moral breakdown of society 2 Peter
3:1-12
a. Good is called evil
b. Evil is called good
c. The world has gone mad and
lost its moral compass
i. Homosexuality, surgery to
change your physical appearance to the opposite sex, drinking, drugs, sexual
perversions such as porn and fetishes, and the killing of unborn babies is
applauded and commended by the morally corrupt today
d. Speak against sexual
perversions, getting high or drunk, pornography or the killing of babies and
you are labeled;
i. Intolerant
ii. Homophobe
iii. Narrow minded
iv. Bigot
v. Prejudice
vi. Fanatical
vii. Hate monger
e. The moral breakdown of
society is NOW
iv. All that remains before the
end is this;
1. The appearance of the
One-World single religion
a. Which will be worship of the
Beast 666 (Revelation 17)
2. And in Revelation
16:14 One-World Government
turning against God Almighty for the battle of Armageddon (Daniel 2)
b.
People gnawed their tongues in agony (from being scorched)
i. and cursed the God of heaven
because of their pains and their sores
c.
but they refused to repent of
what they had done.
III.
THE SIXTH ANGEL POUR OUT THE SIXTH BOWL
a.
The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river
Euphrates
i. and its water was dried up
to prepare the way for the kings from the East.
ii. East is the direction of the
rising sun, spiritually speaking, the Lord’s Kingdom
iii. Euphrates literally means “breaking
forth like water” and through scripture is symbolic of a “vine out of Egypt”
or, the spiritual church represented by the sons of Israel, the Lord’s “water”,
“word”, “Truth”.
1. Remember when the Dragon
spewed forth a deluge of water to try and drown the woman’s offspring?
2. Water from the Dragon
(Satan) symbolic of false teachings to cause Jews and Christians to become
confused about the Truth and stray
3. Here in Revelation we see
the 6th bowl poured out dries up the Great River Euphrates, meaning
it put a STOP to false teachings brought forth by the Dragon
iv. The purpose?
1. “To prepare a way for the
Kings from the East”
2. Or, the Kings from the
direction of the rising son, those who serve God
b.
Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like
frogs;
i. The Beast (666) has lost his
kingdom, and feels his grip on mankind and earth slipping…he becomes desperate
ii. Three impure spirits that
looked like frogs came out of the mouth of the dragon
iii. out of the mouth of the
beast
iv. and out of the mouth of the
false prophet.
v. Each wicked person will
suddenly understand his dire situation. He deliberately defied the God of
Heaven in order to save himself from death and now, there will be no escape
from death. The devil also knows that his deception is over, so he will send
three of his most powerful demons to the ten kings of the Earth.
vi. Why frogs?
1. How do frogs catch their
prey? With their tongues.
2. These lying demons will
perform a series of “signs” before each king of the earth to get their loyalty
to the beast.
c.
They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they
go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the
great day of God Almighty.
i. “Look, I come like a thief!
Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked
and be shamefully exposed.”
1. Blessed is the one who stays
awake
2. And “remains clothed” (in
Christs garments of Salvation)
a. Yes, you can “lose” this
clothing
b. You CAN lost Salvation, the
Lord says so right here!
c. You cannot “remain” in
something if you do not have it, and you cannot lose it.
3. James
5:19-20
“My brothers and sisters (SAVED), if one of you should wander from the truth and someone
should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a
sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of
sins.”
a. Death here is Spiritual
death, the second death which comes from Judgment Day!
4. “Look, I come like a thief!
Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”
a. If you stand naked before
God on Judgment Day, He will judge you for your sins!
b. If you stand before the Lord
garbed in the White Clothes of Christs Salvation, He will only see the garment,
and not what is beneath it!
c. You have a covering in
Christ and His Salvation that will “save you” from Judgment Day and the Second
Death!
ii. Then they gathered the kings
together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.
IV.
THE SEVENTH ANGEL POURS OUT THE SEVENTH AND LAST BOWL
a.
The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air
i. and out of the temple came a
loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!”
b.
Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals
of thunder and a sever earthquake.
i. No earthquake like it has
ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.
ii. The great city split into
three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed.
c.
God remembered Babylon the Great
i. and gave her the cup filled
with the wine of the fury of his wrath.
CONCLUSION
–
God remembered
Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his
wrath.
Every island
