INTRODUCTION

Today is Sunday. September 29^th, 2024

Abortion & Stem Cells

Last week we spoke about whether we should even vote as a Christian, and through the scripture found that not only does Jesus say we are supposed to obey the laws of the land, we are called to be good citizens and lead by example. It is our moral Christian duty to stand for the statutes of God revealed in His word and be a light in this world.

We answered the question of whether or not Jesus would even vote if He were a citizen in the United States today, and I believe the answer would be yes, because of His own words in Mark 12:17 “…Jesus said to them, ‘Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.’”

I do not believe Jesus would vote straight ticket, because the Lord would vote the morals of scripture, and there is no singular perfect and holy political party. However, there are those out there, though flawed because they are human, who do struggle to bring the moral values of scripture to the platform. They are the ones we seek to support, regardless of party affiliation.

Besides, how many times have we seen politicians flip flop and party jump? The unfortunate truth is, most politicians are only loyal to themselves, regardless of what they say.

Something to remember about scripture, God’s Word. As a Christian, we should only be concerned about what the word says, and not follow feelings and emotions. It is a fact that feelings and emotions are reactions to stimuli, and can change at the drop of a hat, and therefore should never be confused with truth.

The truth of God’s word is all that matters, whether we understand it, or agree with it. If the Creator of the universe, and everything in it says something is wrong, then it is wrong. End of story. The Creator gets to decide this.

Today we will look at one of the most important issues in politics, abortion.

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE

Exodus 20:13

"You shall not murder.”

I. IS ABORTION MURDER? WHEN DOES LIFE ACTUALLY START?

a. The difference between murder and kill

i. God does not “cause” man to sin

1. So when God’s people are commanded to fight other nations, they had to “kill”

2. There were many reasons for this, but mostly it was to preserve the Israelites so the savior could be born

3. Killing in defense and war time is not murder

4. Exodus 22:2 “If the thief is found while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.”

5. 1 Samuel 17:50 “Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and he struck the Philistine and killed him”

ii. Murder is the “unjustified” killing of a person

1. An “innocent” life

2. This is why in our legal system there are different levels of punishment for the death of another person.

a. 1^st Degree murder is committed with intent, deliberate, premeditation, and malice afterthought.

b. 2^nd Degree murder is intentional killing without premeditation, intent to cause harm.

c. 3^rd Degree murder (known as capital murder) act with disregard for human life and a depraved mind.

d. Manslaughter only face manslaughter charges if they were aware of the risks to another life but went ahead with their actions anyway, such as vehicular manslaughter. (drunk driving and killed an innocent person)

3. There are no charges for a person defending his home, family, life, property, if it was self-defense.

a. This is the difference between murder and killing.

iii. What scripture says

1. So, if the death is justified by God (self-defense, protection of life, family, property, war, etc.) THEN is it justified by God and considered KILLING.

2. If the death is NOT justified by God (murder an innocent person, i.e. purposely ending the life of someone) that is murder, and a sin.

b. When does life begin? Is abortion really ending a life?

i. I have heard professing Christians argue life does not begin until the baby is born because of the following verses;

1. Job 33:4 “The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.”

2. Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”

3. The problem with this is these versus are explicitly speaking about God “breathing” His Spirit of Life into man.

a. God doesn’t “breathe” air.

b. “Air” is NOT what gives our forms life.

c. A bellows “breathes” air in and out, is it alive? No.

d. It is the Spirit of God that makes us alive.

e. And that is placed within us by God Himself

4. And when do we receive this Spirit? Is it truly after we are “born” and out of the womb, or BEFORE?

a. Job says when the Spirit of God made him (formed him in his mother’s womb, because that’s where we are “made”) The breath of the Almighty (His Spirit) gave him life, pre-born, in the womb!

b. Psalm 139:13 “For You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

c. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,”

c. Life begins in the womb, it IS an unborn child

i. Isaiah 49:1 “The Lord called me from the womb; from the body of my mother He named me.”

ii. Psalm 139:13-16 speaks of the wonders of being created in the womb, and how at THAT time, God ordained days, they were written, plans are made for the unborn baby “When as yet there was not one of them.”

1. It is clear, this all takes place before we are born.

a. The Lord creates us in the womb

b. He gives us His Spirit of Life

c. He names us, and knows us before we are born

d. He writes our days down in a book

2. And does all of this BEFORE we even see one day! i.e. before we are born.

3. The unborn baby has life at the moment God begins to knit them within their mother womb! Which is fertilization, conception!

iii. Life begins at conception, it IS an unborn human child

II. IS THE TAKING OF LIFE, BORN OR UNBORN, EVER JUSTIFIED?

a. In scripture, murder is never permitted, though there is a time for killing

i. Ecclesiastes 3:3 “A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;”

ii. When is there a time to kill? Scripture states the time to kill is;

1. Exodus 21:12-14 “Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. 13 However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate. 14 But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death.”

2. Exodus 21:16 “Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession.”

3. Exodus 21:22-25 If there is an altercation and a pregnant woman gives birth prematurely and the baby dies, there is to be a “life for life” retribution.

a. The word of God here makes it clear, the baby is ALIVE

4. Deuteronomy 22:25 “if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death.”

5. Leviticus 18 Any incest whatsoever

6. Leviticus 18:21 Any child sacrifice

7. So, anyone who intentionally kills, kidnaps someone, causes a pregnant woman to lose her baby, a rapist, someone who commits incest or child sacrifice, should be put to death for their crimes.

b. The Lord hates hands that shed innocent blood

i. Proverbs 6:16-17 says that God HATES hands that shed innocent blood.

c. Children are a gift from God

i. PSALM 127:3 “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”

III. THE SANCTITY OF LIFE AND OUR MORAL OBLIGATION

a. What does the scripture say?

i. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” Matthew 5:14

1. One way we can let our light shine is by living our morals, and voting Christian values.

b. Abortion is murder of an innocent unborn child

i. A child that was created and named by God in the womb

ii. A child that God knew before the child was born

iii. A child that when God created, He also breathed His Spirit of life into

iv. A child that is by all accounts, is completely innocent

c. What about stem cells?

i. There are 4 types

1. Adult stem cells from bone marrow and fat

2. Adult cells altered to have different properties

3. Perinatal stem cells from amniotic fluid and umbilical cords

4. And embryonic stem cells

ii. Of these 4 types, only 1 concerns the killing of babies, and that is the embryonic stem cells

1. “The embryos (baby) being used in embryonic stem cell research come from eggs that were fertilized at in vitro fertilization clinics but never implanted in a woman's uterus. The stem cells are donated with informed consent from donors. The stem cells can live and grow in special solutions in test tubes or petri dishes in laboratories.” ~ Mayo Clinic website direct quote

iii. Things to note about their description in BOLD

1. A sperm will never be a baby.

2. An unfertilized egg will never be a baby.

3. A fertilized egg IS a baby, and an innocent life.

iv. I only oppose embryonic stem cells, because it murders a baby

d. Stem cell research and the good it CAN do

i. The stem cells do great things, including heal, regenerate other cells, help us fight disease, etc.

ii. Not ALL stem cell research is bad, not all research kills babies for cells.

1. But some do.

iii. Embryonic Stem Cell Research literally fertilizes eggs to create babies, grows them for a period of time where, as stated on the Mayo Clinic website, they LIVE until the scientists take them for research.

CONCLUSION –

So, what about abortion and stem cell research?

The word of God is clear on this matter, and for non-Christians, science supports it.

When the egg is fertilized, life begins. God begins the “knitting together” of life and breathes the spirit of life into the baby. He knows the baby, and even names them in the womb!

Stem cells, if taken from the embryo’s murders the innocent child.

Those who argue “but the embryo is grown in a lab and would never mature to full term anyway.”

The egg should have never been fertilized and kept in the lab to be experimented on. This IS human research, and is unethical, and illegal.

· Unit 731 in Nazi Germany

o During the Nuremberg Trials, 23 Nazi doctors and scientists were tried for the unethical treatment of concentration camp inmates, who were often used as research subjects with fatal consequences.

· Before World War II, The Law for the Prevention of Genetically Defective Progeny, passed on 14 July 1933, legalized the involuntary sterilization of persons with diseases claimed to be hereditary: weak-mindedness, schizophrenia, alcohol abuse, insanity, blindness, deafness, and physical deformities.

· During World War II, The Luftwaffe performed a series of 360 to 400 experiments at Dachau and Auschwitz

Abortion, stem cells from fertilized embryonic research, is barbaric, unethical, and the murder of human life. It is literally genocide.

Why has it been allowed to continue? Because as long as they can convince people it is a “woman’s right,” or “healthcare,” or a baby human is not a human until after it is born, they can convince voters to keep it legal.

But just because something is legal, that does not make it right and moral.

But what about rape and incest?

Less than 1% of abortions are from rape or incest. Of those who claim rape, statistics show nearly 10% of rape claims are false in the United States.

To justify murdering over 99% of babies because of the less than 1% is ridiculous. That would be like giving the death penalty to 99 people because 1 of them committed murder.

Right now, nearly 1,000,000 babies are murdered by abortion each year.

BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE HAD ABORTIONS!

If you have had an abortion, and feel you are unworthy of God and His forgiveness and love, well, we are all unworthy of His forgiveness and love, however He offers it to us anyway!

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

When we acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, believe He died on the cross as a substitutional sacrifice for our sins, and rose again 3 days later as a sign of God’s Approval and a symbol our rebirth in Him, receiving Salvation through the cross, confess our sins and repent of them, we will be forgiven!

We will receive God’s Holy Spirit, and He will begin a work in us.

We can be forgiven and called a child of God through Jesus Christ.
