SERMON INTRODUCTION
Last
week Jude spoke about the act of rejecting God’s Word was an act of rejecting
the Lord Himself, and that if we reject the Lord, He in turn rejects us.
This
week, we will see Jude expounding on the ungodly, specifically those who not
only make up their own religion, but try to teach their beliefs to others as if
it were God’s Words.
These
ungodly people look for others who believe the way they believe, so they can
perpetuate their sugar coating on the sin and ungodliness they refuse to repent
from.
They
may fool others outwardly with their act of religious righteousness, and they
may even fool themselves, however God will not be mocked.

SCRIPTURE READING
Jude 1:17-25
But,
dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ
foretold.18 They said to you, “In the last times there will
be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere
natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves
up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others
show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted
flesh.
I.
IN THE LAST TIMES
THERE WILL BE SCOFFERS
a. They mock and grumble against the Word of God
i.
Who hates the Word? Those who do not wish to obey it!
ii.
Some claim to love Jesus, however Jesus Himself said, “If you love me, you will obey all that I
command.”
iii.
Why do they scoff at the Word of God and discount it?
1. Because they wish
to follow their flesh as opposed to God’s Spirit
b. They will follow their own ungodly desires
i.
What ungodly desires? Acts of the Flesh!
1.
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual
immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft;
hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions,
factions 21 and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those
who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21
ii.
They desires to gratify their flesh rather than God’s
Spirit
II.
THESE ARE THE
PEOPLE WHO WILL DIVIDE YOU
a. Those who follow natural instincts
i.
This is why we are told in 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 to
remove the immoral from the church
1. It doesn’t say,
give them a warning
2. It doesn’t say ask
them to stop being immoral
3. It doesn’t say,
forgiveness means letting them stay
4.
But the Word of God DOES SAY, “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the
church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those
outside. “Expel the wicked person from among
you.”
ii.
Why kick them out?
Because the Word of God says so, but if you need a reason;
1.
These people are NOT lovers of Jesus
2.
They mock God and His Word because they know it, yet follow
their own desires
3.
They are not “struggling” with sin in their lives, they are
out right LIVING IN IT, and trying to hide it from everyone, they are WICKED
4.
And the scriptures show us, “These ARE the people who WILL
divide you!”
iii.
Therefore these ungodly wicked MUST be removed from the church to prevent division!
b. They do not have the Holy Spirit
i.
Meaning they are not truly saved, nor do they want to
be
ii.
They wish to keep living the way that gratifies their
flesh, and continue hiding it from the rest of the congregation
III.
BUT YOU, BY
BUILDING YOURSELVES UP IN YOUR MOST HOLY FAITH
a. And praying in the Holy Spirit
i.
Keep yourselves in God’s love
ii.
Prov 8:17 – “I love them that love me; and those
that seek me early shall find me.”
iii.
John 14:21 – “He that hath my commandments, and
keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of
my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
iv.
John 14:23 – “Jesus answered and said unto him, If
a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will
come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
v.
So
only if we love God, will God love us in the sense that He fellowships us and
gives us eternal life. And loving God is defined by John 14:21 above as keeping God’s commandments. Are you keeping
God’s commandments? You must if you want God to save you from your sins.
b. As you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to
bring you eternal life
i.
So while we wait for Jesus to bring us eternal life, we
are to live by building ourselves up in the most holy faith and keep praying in
the Holy Spirit
ii.
In other words, living by the Word and following God’s
Spirit
1. NOT hiding among
His people and living for ourselves following the ungodly desires of our flesh.
IV.
BE MERCIFUL TO
THOSE WHO DOUBT (LIT and of some have compassion making a difference)
a. Meaning to show compassion to those who are new to
hearing the Truth
i.
Many times their doubt was formed by mis-information
ii.
Give them the Truth in compassion of their doubts and
that may be all it takes to make a difference
b. Save others by snatching them from the fire
i.
We are to preach to the lost, giving them the Word of
God so they too can follow God’s Spirit, and be saved from judgment
ii.
However, it is up to THEM to allow God’s Spirit to work
with them
c. To others show mercy mixed with fear
i.
Who are “others”?
ii.
Those who did not receive the Word and were not
snatched from the fire
iii.
To them, we mix fear with the mercy shown
iv.
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
d. Hate even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh
i.
meaning we are to despise all the works of the flesh
and everything they “touch”
ii.
i.e. False Converts who pretend to be followers and do
“good works” to prove themselves.
1. These works were
done by corrupted flesh and its desire to deceive others into thinking they are
“good people”, it was NOT done by the leading of the Holy Spirit, or for God’s
Glory, and therefore we hate it.
iii.
These wicked people deceive others, sometimes even
themselves to manipulate for personal gain, whether financial, or for show or
material gain.
1. They are wicked,
and all they do is done in their flesh and to be rebuked by believers.
CONCLUSION
To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and
to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with
great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be
glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all
ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
